History

The tradition began in 1913 when local leaders founded the club as a nine-hole private golf course with 200 charter members. In 1919, the members solicited the services of renowned golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast, who developed the existing golf course design. 100 years later, many of his designs are still ranked in the top 100 best list in the United States. Tillinghast designs include: Pine Valley, Philadelphia Cricket Club, Baltusrol, Winged Foot, and Bethpage, of which multiple have been host to numerous US Opens and PGA Championships.
